How to Organize Under the Kitchen Sink (Without Remodeling)

Collage of five home organization solutions, including a two-tier dish drying rack, under-sink storage shelves, a pantry cabinet organizer for dishes and containers, a five-slot food container lid rack, and black storage baskets for cleaning supplies.

The cabinet under the kitchen sink is the messiest spot in most homes. Pipes take up the middle, bottles get shoved to the back, and finding the dish soap means moving everything else first. You don't need a remodel to fix it, just a plan and a few smart organizers.

Step 1: Empty it and toss what you don't use

Take everything out. Throw away empty bottles, dried-up sponges, and duplicates. Wipe the cabinet floor and check for leaks or water damage while it's empty. If you find a drip, fix that first.

Step 2: Measure before you buy anything

Measure the cabinet's width, depth, and height, and note where the pipes and garbage disposal sit. Most under-sink organizers fail because they don't fit around the plumbing. Write the measurements on your phone so you have them while you shop.

Step 3: Group what's left

Sort items into categories: dish and dishwasher supplies, all-purpose cleaners, sponges and brushes, trash bags, and backup stock. Keep the things you use daily in front. Backup bottles can go behind or on an upper level.

Step 4: Work around the pipes, not against them

An expandable under-sink organizer shelf adjusts to fit around plumbing and adds a second level of storage in a space that's usually wasted. Choose a single layer for tight cabinets, or two layers with pull-out baskets if you have more height.

Step 5: Make the back of the cabinet reachable

Items at the back get forgotten. A 2-tier pull-out organizer shelf slides forward so you can grab cleaning supplies without knocking everything over. Put one on each side of the pipes for the most usable space.

Step 6: Use the vertical space

The inside of the cabinet door and the space above your bottles are free storage. A wall-mount lid organizer rack with 5 or 10 hooks can hang pot lids, brushes, or rubber gloves under a cabinet or on a wall. Mounting hardware is included.

Step 7: Carry the system to the rest of the kitchen

Once the sink cabinet is sorted, the same ideas work everywhere:

Keep it organized

  • One in, one out. When you buy a new cleaner, finish or toss the old one.
  • Do a 5-minute reset monthly. Pull everything forward, wipe up drips, and restock trash bags.
  • Keep a small tray under bottles. It catches spills and makes cleanup easy.
